Alter Terms of Service
Effective date: 16 July 2026 · Last updated: 16 July 2026
1. The service
Alter is an AI “second brain”: you capture unstructured thoughts, and the service classifies them, files them, compiles a personal knowledge base (your wiki), generates briefings, and produces AI-assisted answers and artifacts. The service is provided by Ishaan Chaturvedi (trading as Alter), Sage House, London N15 3FB (“we”).
2. Your account
You must provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure. You must be at least 16 years old. One person per account.
3. Subscription, trial, billing
- Trial: 3 days, no payment method required to start.
- Price: £20/month or £192/year (20% discount), billed via Stripe.
- After the trial, a paid subscription is required to continue using AI features.
- Immediate performance & cancellation: by subscribing you request and consent to immediate provision of the digital service, and you acknowledge that you lose your statutory right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 once the service has begun. No charge is taken during the free-trial period; you may cancel before it ends at no cost.
- Cancellation after billing: any time via Settings → Billing; paid periods run to their end (no partial refunds).
4. Fair use of AI features
AI processing is metered: a daily per-account cost cap ($3/day standard) protects both sides from runaway usage. When the cap is reached, AI features pause until the next day; your data and non-AI features remain available. We may adjust cap and pricing with notice per §10.
5. Your content
You own your content. You grant us the limited licence needed to operate the service: storing, encrypting, processing through the AI pipeline (including the listed sub-processors), and displaying it back to you. We do not use your content to train models, and our AI providers' published policies state the same for API traffic (see the Privacy Policy §4 for retention specifics). You can export everything and delete your account (immediately and permanently) at any time via Settings → Privacy.
6. Acceptable use
No unlawful content or use, no attempts to break, overload, or reverse the service or its cost controls, no reselling access, no submitting content you have no right to process.
7. AI output disclaimer
AI-generated classifications, summaries, briefings, answers, and artifacts can be wrong. They are assistance, not professional advice (medical, legal, financial or otherwise). Review before you rely.
8. Availability and warranty
The service is provided “as is”. We target high availability but do not warrant uninterrupted service. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is capped at the amounts you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim; nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited (including under EU consumer law).
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts for material breach of §6, with notice where practicable. On termination we delete your data per the Privacy Policy's deletion terms.
10. Changes
We may amend these terms; material changes are announced by email and in-app at least [30] days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance; otherwise, cancel and export before then.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction — except that EU/EEA consumers keep the mandatory protections of their local law. Contact: alter@nullsutra.com.
